- ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and positively respond to unforeseen challenges.
Location: Homebased within Somerset area
Salary: £19,432.27 to £21,703.54pa pro rata
Hours: 28 hours per week, permanent

Lead Locality Co-ordinator
Open Mental Health | The Balsam Centre
The Balsam is looking for a Lead Locality Coordinator for South Somerset.
The role is to provide high level administrative support to assist the Operations Manager in the effective delivery of a range of VCSE services and activities that support people’s mental health across South Somerset, in partnership with Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder should have a good understanding of the determinants of mental health, together with a knowledge of the geography and health and social infrastructure of South Somerset.
Location: Somerset – you will be based in Somerset area and have the opportunity to work from home
Salary: Up to £27,000 pro rata dependent on experience
Hours: 15 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term contract to end of March 2024

Men’s Mental Health: Community Development Worker (male only)
Second Step
The role of Community Development Worker is to reduce the risk of suicide in men through promoting and encouraging help-seeking behaviour by engaging directly with men, community leaders and local communities to build support within communities. This exciting role will empower and support individuals and organisations across Somerset to take action to support men’s mental health and prevent suicide.
You will be working as part of a small team, with support from a dedicated Communications Officer who will focus on online/social media presence for the project.
The Community Development Worker will:
- Identify men’s mental health needs within individual communities; and work with communities to meet these needs
- Create, organise and lead events, previous examples include bacon butty tours of constructions sites, football and rugby events and suicide awareness days
- Work with community leaders to create spaces for men to talk
- Seek out and offer support to existing community projects
- Support community projects to access and secure funding
- Build relationships across mental health services in Somerset and work with partners to prevent suicide
- Be the “face” of the project, engaging with local support services and linking across services.
- Meet directly with men in the community to start conversations about mental health
- Work proactively and creatively to engage hard to reach men in accessing support services
Location: Somerset wide (hybrid working)
Salary: £24,554 – £26,842 pro-rata per annum
Hours: 22-37 hours per week
